"Basically, there is no understeer," says Audi's Michl. "Even the latest RS4 has improved, but this is a whole new level. It's my favorite development because you can experience it every day."
While we await Autocar's road test verdict, one thing's for sure: the RS5 is now firmly in the conversation with its key rivals, the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63, both of which offer similar rear-biased four-wheel-drive systems.
The RS5's design is just as aggressive as its performance. It sits lower and wider than the standard A5, with a choice of 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels that give it an imposing stance. "We had to go all out to truly differentiate it from the base model," says designer Wolf Seebers. "Some of our proposals went even further into motorsport territory, but we wanted to tone it down a bit. In my opinion, this is already quite restrained."
